The latest weather forecast from North Carolina Emergency Management for Central North Carolina including the Sandhills and Scotland County (Laurinburg).
Hurricane Helene is expected to track 400 miles to the west of Laurinburg, but we will experience some outer bands of rain and wind.
The National Weather Service is predicting 1” to 2” of rain and wind gusts of up to 37 mph in Scotland County over the next 48 hours. The conditions may be conducive for tornadoes from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday.
Any weather event can cause power outages, falling trees, and dangerous conditions. Be safe and don’t venture out if conditions deteriorate.
If you plan to travel over the next 24 hours, keep in mind that higher rainfall amounts are forecast for the Hwy 74 corridor between Rockingham and the mountains of North Carolina. Asheville is expected to receive between 6” and 8” of rain.
Campus administrators will continue to monitor the weather. If you have concerns, please reach out to your RD/RA or Dean of Students.
