Weather Update

Knight Nation,

As part of our commitment to ensure your safety here at SAU, we want to remind you using candles are strictly prohibited. We encourage you to use flashlights or battery powered LED lights in case there is a power outage.

Please remember to keep your phones and other electronic devices charged at all times to ensure you can stay connected and access important information when needed.

Lastly, be cautious and avoid parking near tree during this storm to prevent potential damage from falling branches or debris.

Your resident directors and resident assistants will be walking through the halls this evening, if you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to your RD or RA at any time. If you have any issues with your room, please let your RD or RA know, so we can address those issues.

If you have any questions please let me know.

Subject: Weather Update

There were positive changes overnight to the weather forecast.

Tropical Storm Debby is off the South Carolina and will make landfall in the next few hours between Charleston and Myrtle Beach.

Over the next 24 to 48 hours, Scotland County will receive 4” to 8” of rain. While the chance of sustained winds has dropped, there could be some heavy wind gusts from tonight through tomorrow.

Flash flooding is still a danger for the area. The lake valves have been opened, sandbags placed to protect some critical infrastructure, and plans to relocate equipment have been activated.

Rain has saturated the ground over the last two weeks, so wind gusts could uproot trees. Please use caution on campus. Be careful when walking and don’t park your vehicle under the trees. There are some flood-prone places on campus and the surrounding roads. Don’t risk driving through water.

The University will not close.

Student Life staff and Campus Safety are here 24/7. If you have concerns or questions, please contact your RA/RD or call (910)280-2895.

Food Services will remain operational.

Scheduled events, team meetings, and practices will continue. If the weather forces alterations, staff will keep you informed.

Now is a good time to sign up for NIXLE, our campus emergency system. This system is used to notify you of weather conditions, class cancellations, and other events. In case of a power outage, it may be the only way we have to effectively communicate with you.

Please add or update your cell phone information by accessing the following link:
