St. Andrews University is pleased to announce the appointment of Matt Quinn as the new head coach of the Knights football team. Quinn, who brings a wealth of experience from his successful tenure at Chesterfield High School in South Carolina, will lead the program into a new era of excellence.
“We are happy to welcome Coach Matt Quinn to St. Andrews,” said Elizabeth Burris, Director of Athletics at St. Andrews. “His leadership and commitment to fostering a culture of excellence in his student-athletes aligns perfectly with our mission.”
“Coach Quinn’s vision, focus on clarity and accountability have been demonstrated throughout his career,” said Dr. Tarun Malik, Campus President. “We are confident that he will continue this leadership here and elevate our football program to new heights.”
Quinn’s coaching career is marked by his dedication to developing young athletes both on and off the field. At Chesterfield High School, he led the team to a 6-5 record in the 2024 season, demonstrating his ability to build competitive and resilient teams. His previous coaching roles include high school head coach positions at Union Pines (NC), North Augusta (SC) and Westwood (SC), where he earned region coach of the year honors.
His former high school and college coach and mentor, Bobby Bentley, speaks highly of him. “I am very proud of Matt and all that he has accomplished. He will be an asset to the University in many ways,” said Bentley, a South Carolina coaching legend. “Matt is a very committed and purpose driven person who cares deeply about others. He will build a championship program as he knows the blueprint for success.”
Quinn’s coaching philosophy centers on skill development, teamwork, and character building. He emphasizes the importance of balancing academics with athletics, ensuring that his players excel not only on the field but also in the classroom and the community.
“I am honored to join St. Andrews University and lead the Knights football program,” said Quinn. “I look forward to working with our student-athletes, faculty, staff, and the entire St. Andrews community to build a program that we can all be proud of.”
Quinn holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from Presbyterian College and a Master of Science in Sports Administration from Southeastern Oklahoma State University. His extensive experience and passion for coaching make him an excellent fit for St. Andrews University.
