Counselor Location Hours and Services

Students ,

All counseling services are confidential, and nothing discussed in counseling sessions is released to others unless you consent to the release of information disclosed on your assessment. For example, a referral for medication or specialized therapy are examples of when we will have to place a phone call to make an appointment. Thus far students have made the referral phone call from the counselor office with the counselor in the room. Believe students should be empowered to make decisions about what types of treatment they want. Below you will find information on office location, hours, and services offered.

Location
The counseling office is located on the first floor of DeTamble Library. When you enter the library turn right and the counselor office is on the right prior to entering the stairwell to the second floor.
Office Hours
Tuesday 3 p.m., to 6 p.m. Wednesday 3 p.m., to 6 p.m. Friday 10 a.m., to 12 noon
Students who need to schedule an appointment outside of the scheduled hours should email the counselor at lockamydl to coordinate a date and time that works both for the student and the counselor. Counselor will answer emails the same day. Students who are in a crisis outside of the counselors scheduled hours should contact the Dean of Students Mary Cross at 910-277-5333 or Director of Student Housing Jeremiah Moretz who will reach me on my cell number. Should they be unavailable the Security Office will access the crisis.
Services
The counseling office provides a variety of services for issues that impact individuals 18 years of age or older. Mental health services include outpatient counseling, assessment and evaluation, referrals for medication appointments, Zoom meetings to renew medications, and urgent care/crisis services. Substance Use Disorders identified by the counselor in the assessment and evaluation process are mild, moderate, or severe. See attachment to learn more about the eleven criteria, or symptoms and behaviors, used to diagnose substance use disorders and their severity. Depending on the number of substances use disorder symptoms a client displays, will determine a mild, moderate, or severe diagnosis.
Have formal training in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TFCBT) offered through the Medical University of South Carolina. Apply TFCBT, Gestalt Therapy, Exposure Therapy, etcetera to help clients identify triggers for their symptoms. Our fears cause us to use avoidance behaviors. Look forward to meeting those who attend or participate in the Resource Fair next Wednesday September 11, 2024.
