Pre-Professional Programs

A pre-professional bachelor’s degree program at St. Andrews refers to programs that prepare students for rigorous graduate admissions requirements for medical, veterinary, health professional, law, and divinity schools.

Pre-professional is not a major, but an area of academic interest. Students work closely with academic advisors to select majors, minors, specializations, and concentrations. Academic advisors and professors assist students each semester to register for the right prerequisite courses informed by their desired career path, as well as to choose campus and community activities that meet their interest, round out their education in a liberal arts setting, and build a strong resume for graduate schools. Capstone research projects enable students to demonstrate in-depth knowledge and training in a specific academic discipline. As acceptance to professional graduate schools is competitive, students are encouraged to volunteer, intern, shadow, or work in settings that build unique related experiences. For example, a number of pre-veterinary students participated in a trip to South Africa supervised by the on-site veterinarian for the University’s Equine programs and worked with rhinos and other large animals.
