Music

The Music Program at St. Andrews University seeks to provide all students an opportunity for exploration into the world of music. Individual development, discovery and development of musical skills and the experience of communal music-making are a priority.

The program strives to foster an appreciation and understanding of music by giving the students the opportunity to become fully engaged, life-long participants and consumers of music. Also, as a representative of the university to the Presbyterian Church (USA), the Music Program actively solicits opportunities for students to provide musical leadership in churches throughout the region. The Music Program is part of the Division of Liberal and Creative Arts (DLCA).

St. Andrews students can pursue an academic Minor in Music with a concentration in voice, piano, or bagpipes. Courses required to complete the 18-hour minor are listed below:

• Music History
• Music Theory I
• Music Theory II
• Ensemble (St. Andrews
• Singers or St. Andrews Pipe and Drum Band)
• Private Lessons

Private piano, voice and bagpipe lessons are available for credit to all interested students. Brass, woodwind and percussion lessons will be available starting Fall 2019. Our professors are highly trained performers and educators. Students will be challenged to become better musicians.

Scholarships are available for students with strong musical/leadership skills and leadership potential who participate in St. Andrews Singers or the Pipe and Drum Band.
